Two More Arrested in Jackson Impound Lot Theft Ring
The investigation into a major theft ring operating out of Jackson, Mississippi, has deepened with the announcement of two additional arrests. Jackson police confirmed that suspects James Yelverton and Jessica Dickerson have been taken into custody in connection with a recent break-in at the city’s municipal impound lot.
The June 1st Break-In and Search Warrants
Investigators state that the initial break-in occurred on June 1, 2026, at the city impound lot located on Michael Avalon Street. The investigation quickly escalated, leading to a coordinated multi-agency raid on June 18. Collaborating with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the U.S. Marshal’s Service, Capitol Police, and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics (MBN), authorities executed search warrants at a residence in the 500 block of Bounds Road.
Suspects and Bond Details
Following their arrests, both Yelverton and Dickerson were charged with business burglary. Yelverton made his initial court appearance on June 25, where a judge set his bond at a staggering $500,000. Dickerson received a bond of $40,000 for her alleged involvement.
These latest arrests follow the prior capture of three other individuals tied to the case: 47-year-old Marshall Fox, 25-year-old Jonathan Brooks, and 40-year-old Gary Burnside. Fox was apprehended on an outstanding Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) warrant, while Brooks was arrested on a probation violation warrant from the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office. Burnside, who was charged directly with business burglary, appeared in court on June 22 and was issued a $500,000 bond alongside an MDOC hold.
Securing Municipal Impound Lots
Impound lots often hold valuable vehicles, parts, and sometimes evidence, making them prime targets for organized theft rings. Municipalities and private lot owners must prioritize high-level security to prevent future breaches:
- Perimeter Defense: Install heavy-duty, anti-climb fencing topped with barbed or razor wire around the entire perimeter of the lot. Ensure all vehicle access gates are reinforced and electronically monitored.
- Advanced Surveillance: Deploy high-definition, night-vision security cameras with motion-tracking capabilities across the entire lot. These cameras should be monitored 24/7 by a central security station.
- Access Control: Implement strict access control measures, including biometric scanners or keycard access for all authorized personnel. Maintain a rigorous digital log of anyone entering or exiting the facility.
- Adequate Lighting: Maintain extremely bright, overlapping lighting across the entire lot during overnight hours to eliminate any dark corners where intruders could hide or operate unseen.
