Homeowner Shoots and Kills Suspect During Brentwood Break-In

JACKSONVILLE, FL โ€” A home invasion in the Brentwood neighborhood of Jacksonville ended in gunfire on Friday after a homeowner took defensive action against an intruder.

According to initial reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO), the incident occurred around 3:00 PM on September 5, 2025. Officers were dispatched to a residence in the Brentwood area following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police discovered a male suspect suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home.

Investigators revealed that the suspect had forced entry into the residence. The homeowner, who was inside the dwelling at the time, encountered the intruder and discharged a firearm. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide detectives and crime scene technicians were deployed to gather evidence and interview the homeowner. At this stage of the investigation, the shooting appears to have been an act of self-defense. No charges have been filed against the homeowner as the investigation continues.

Local authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information about this incident to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
