Mandarin Card Shop Owner Resilient After $5,000 Pokémon Card Smash-and-Grab Burglary
JACKSONVILLE, Florida — The owner of a local trading card store in the Mandarin neighborhood of Jacksonville is refusing to back down after a destructive smash-and-grab burglary cost the business thousands of dollars in high-value merchandise.
Thieves targeted the shop in the early morning hours, shattering the storefront glass to gain entry. Once inside, the burglars bypassed general inventory to focus on a display case containing rare and collectible Pokémon cards. In total, approximately $5,000 worth of cards were swiped within a matter of minutes before the suspects fled the scene.
Despite the significant financial loss and physical damage to the shop, the owner expressed resilience. Speaking to local reporters, they emphasized that the incident, while disheartening, would "not break" them or their commitment to the local hobbyist community. Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the store and surrounding businesses to identify the suspects involved in the heist.
