Two Individuals on Pretrial Release Re-Arrested After Strong-Arm Robbery on Hickory Street
JOLIET, IL โ A strong-arm robbery on Hickory Street has resulted in the arrest of two individuals, both of whom were already on active pretrial release for separate pending criminal matters. The incident has renewed discussions surrounding Illinois' pretrial release framework and local law enforcement challenges.
According to the Joliet Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Hickory Street area following reports of a physical altercation and theft. The victim reported being confronted by two individuals who demanded personal belongings and used physical force to secure them before fleeing on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries but did not require immediate hospitalization.
Pretrial Status and Legal Implications
Responding officers located two suspects matching descriptions provided by witnesses nearby. Upon processing, investigators discovered that both suspects were currently participating in pretrial release programs for prior offenses. Under current Will County court guidelines, prosecutors filed petitions to revoke their pretrial release status, arguing that they present a continued threat to public safety.
Both individuals now face additional charges of robbery and aggravated battery. They remain in custody at the Will County Adult Detention Center pending their initial court appearances, where a judge will determine whether they will remain detained throughout the duration of their trial.
