Thieves Hit Las Vegas Comic Book Store Twice in Three Weeks

LAS VEGAS, NV โ€” A local comic book shop in the Northwest Valley is facing a costly road to recovery after being targeted by thieves twice in less than a month. Owners and staff at MaximuM Comics are expressing their deep frustration as they deal with both property damage and stolen inventory.

The first break-in occurred in early February, when burglars shattered the store's glass front doors to gain entry. Once inside, the perpetrators quickly ransacked the display cases, fleeing with a stash of valuable comic books and cash from the register. While the store was still working to repair the physical damage and replace the stolen merchandise, a second break-in occurred under similar circumstances just three weeks later.

Frustration for a Local Business

The repeat incidents have taken a heavy financial and emotional toll on the small business. The owner of MaximuM Comics spoke out about the challenges of operating a niche retail store under constant threat of commercial burglary.

"It is disheartening to work so hard to build something for the community, only to have it repeatedly damaged and stolen by people who have no respect for others' livelihood," the owner shared in a statement.

In both instances, the suspects utilized smash-and-grab tactics, targeting the business during the late-night hours when the shop was closed. Surveillance video captured the suspects wearing hoodies and masks, moving rapidly through the store to fill bags with merchandise before fleeing before police could arrive on the scene.

Community Support and Security Upgrades

Following the second break-in, MaximuM Comics has received a wave of support from the local Las Vegas geek and collector community. Regular customers and fellow business owners have rallied to help the shop, with some organizing fundraisers and others stopping by simply to purchase books and offer encouragement.

In response to the burglaries, the store's management has announced plans to implement significant security upgrades, including installing reinforced security gates, upgrading their camera systems, and coordinating closely with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) to increase patrols in the commercial plaza.
