Violent ATM Robbery in Las Vegas Leaves Young Victim Hospitalized for $40

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is searching for a masked suspect who shot a 22-year-old man during a robbery at a local ATM, leaving the victim with critical injuries for a mere forty dollars.

The victim, Bryson Chen, had just finished a late-night work shift in June 2025 and stopped at an ATM in the Northeast Valley of Las Vegas to withdraw $40 for gasoline. As he was completing the transaction, an armed suspect wearing a mask and gloves approached him from behind, brandishing a firearm. The suspect took the cash and Chen's wallet before shooting him. Chen survived the shooting but suffered severe, life-altering physical injuries.

This shooting has intensified discussions around the safety and liability of ATM vestibules in Las Vegas. The issue of negligent security at financial institutions was also highlighted in a major trial in March 2024 covered by the Courtroom View Network (CVN). In that case, Yang v. Bank of America, a woman was shot in the face during a 2019 robbery at a Chinatown walk-up ATM, leading to a premises liability lawsuit. Plaintiffs argued the bank had prior knowledge of security threats at the ATM but failed to protect customers.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the shooter in Bryson Chen’s case to contact the LVMPD or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of Nevada.
