Police Release Tragic 911 Calls from Las Vegas Home Invasion Ending in Fatal Shooting of Homeowner
LAS VEGAS, NV โ The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has released the distressing 911 audio recordings associated with a fatal home invasion on November 12, 2024, which culminated in a responding police officer shooting and killing the homeowner who had called for help.
Distressing Emergency Calls Released
The audio recordings capture the frantic moments when 43-year-old Brandon Durham called emergency dispatchers to report that an intruder was breaking into his home. Durham can be heard telling the operator that he was locking himself in the bathroom with his teenage daughter while a suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux, was trying to force entry. Screams and signs of a physical struggle are audible on the recording as police officers arrived at the residence.
The Responding Officer's Actions
Bodycam footage and dispatch logs show that Officer Alexander Bookman entered the home to find Durham struggling with Boudreaux over a knife. Within seconds of entering the hallway, Officer Bookman fired his service weapon, striking Durham. After Durham fell to the ground, the officer fired additional shots, resulting in Durham's death. The intruder, Boudreaux, was taken into custody unharmed at the scene.
Outcry Over Police Conduct
The release of the 911 calls has intensified public scrutiny and sparked widespread anger from Durham's family and community members. Legal representatives for the family argue that Durham was the victim who sought police assistance, and the officerโs rapid use of lethal force was unjustified. The incident remains under intensive investigation by the department's Internal Oversight and Constitutional Policing Bureau.
