Las Vegas Woman Charged After Stealing Casket and Dumping Body on Sidewalk
LAS VEGAS, Nevada โ A local woman has been arrested and charged after a shocking break-in at a Las Vegas funeral home, during which a casket was stolen and a deceased body was left abandoned on the pavement.
The incident occurred on August 27, 2024, at the Affordable Cremation & Burial Service on West Charleston Boulevard. Police were dispatched to the scene following reports of a casket sitting on the sidewalk. Upon arrival, officers found that the businessโs glass front door had been shattered and forced open. The casket was sitting on a wheeled cart on the sidewalk, and the body of a deceased individual had been removed and left lying face down on landscaping rocks near the entrance.
Surveillance footage showed the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Patricia Sierra, entering and exiting the funeral home multiple times before wheeling the casket out. Sierra was apprehended on August 29, 2024, after a citizen spotted her at a nearby 7-Eleven and contacted police. Sierra reportedly told police she was under the influence of substances during the incident and did not remember why she did it, expressing remorse for her actions.
Sierra faces several charges, including burglary of a business, grand larceny, and removing, transferring, or disturbing human remains. Legal reports indicate she may receive probation as part of a negotiated plea agreement.
