Lexington Police Search for Suspect in Early Morning Commercial Burglary
LEXINGTON, KY โ The Lexington Police Department has launched an active investigation and is appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a suspect connected to a commercial burglary that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, February 18, 2026. The incident has raised concerns among local merchants regarding retail security during late-night hours.
According to police reports, officers responded to an automated alarm activation at a retail establishment located within the city limits of Lexington. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered signs of forced entry, including a shattered glass entry door. Surveillance footage retrieved from the business's security system shows an unidentified individual breaching the premises and systematically searching the interior.
The suspect, captured on high-definition security cameras, was wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket with the hood pulled tight, dark pants, and gloves. The individual appeared to have knowledge of the store's layout, moving directly toward the checkout area and high-value display cases. After successfully stealing merchandise and an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled the scene on foot before police arrived.
Detectives with the Lexington Police Departmentโs Burglary Unit are currently reviewing the footage and seeking additional security camera recordings from neighboring businesses that might have captured the suspect's escape route. Business owners in the immediate area are encouraged to check their exterior surveillance systems for any suspicious activity between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on the morning of February 18.
