Southwest Lincoln Burglary Suspect Apprehended While Wearing Victim's Clothes
A Bizarre Break-In and Arrest in Southwest Lincoln
In a bizarre series of events, the Lincoln Police Department arrested a 47-year-old local man following a burglary and vehicle theft in southwest Lincoln. According to police reports, the suspect, identified as Joshua Watkins, broke into a commercial establishment located near South 6th Street and West Pioneers Boulevard during the late evening hours of May 31, 2026. Store owners arrived to find their workplace ransacked and their vehicle missing, immediately alerting authorities.
Stolen Vehicle and Bizarre Clothing Swap
Once inside the business, Watkins allegedly ransacked the premises, causing significant property damage, rifling through desk drawers, and sorting through personal items. Among the items stolen was a pickup truck belonging to the business owner. In addition to stealing the vehicle, the suspect decided to change out of his own attire and put on clothes belonging to the victim, which had been left at the business. The suspect left his own discarded clothing at the scene.
Police Response and Arrest
Responding officers located the stolen pickup truck nearby and initiated a traffic stop. Watkins was taken into custody without incident. At the time of his arrest, officers noted that Watkins was actively wearing the victim's clothes. He was also found in possession of other stolen property from the business. Watkins has been booked into the Lancaster County Jail and faces multiple felony charges, including burglary and auto theft. LPD officers noted that the unusual circumstances surrounding the suspect's attire made for a quick and clear identification of the suspect.
