La Cienega Tour Company Hit by Double E-Bike Burglaries in Less Than a Month
LOS ANGELES, CA โ A local tour and rental company located on the busy corridor of La Cienega Boulevard is reeling after being targeted by burglars twice in less than a month, resulting in the theft of multiple high-value electric bicycles.
The business, which relies heavily on its fleet of e-bikes to conduct guided sightseeing tours of Los Angeles, was first burglarized earlier in the month. Before the owners could fully recover and replace their stolen inventory, a second break-in occurred under similar circumstances, compounding the financial blow to the small business.
According to reports, the suspects targeted the company's storage facility during late-night hours. They managed to defeat physical locks and security measures to access the e-bikes, which are valued at several thousand dollars each. Surveillance footage captured the thieves working quickly to load the heavy bicycles into a waiting transport vehicle before departing the scene.
The repeated thefts highlight a growing trend of organized criminals targeting niche outdoor recreation and rental shops. E-bikes have become high-priority targets for thieves due to their high resale value and strong demand on the secondary market, where they can be difficult to track once sold.
The business owners expressed deep frustration and uncertainty about their future operations. "To be hit once is devastating, but to have it happen again just weeks later is absolutely heartbreaking," the owner stated, noting the immense strain on insurance and operational costs. "We are trying to run a legitimate business and provide tours of our city, but these crimes make it almost impossible to sustain."
The Los Angeles Police Department is actively investigating both incidents and searching for links between the two break-ins. Local business associations are calling for increased surveillance and police presence along La Cienega Boulevard to deter further commercial property crimes.
Security experts advise businesses storing high-value portable equipment to utilize GPS tracking devices, double-lock inventory to fixed anchors, and implement motion-activated alarm systems with direct dispatch links to local precincts.
