Los Angeles Resident Safely Locks Self in Bathroom During Active House Burglary
LOS ANGELES, CA โ A home burglary in Los Angeles took a tense turn when a resident was forced to lock themselves inside a bathroom while suspects broke into and ransacked the home, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Quick Action Prevents Confrontation
The incident occurred during the afternoon when the resident, who was home alone, heard glass shattering at the rear of the property. Realizing that intruders were entering the house, the resident immediately retreated to a master bathroom, locked the door, and dialed 911 to alert emergency dispatchers.
While barricaded inside, the resident could hear the suspects moving through the hallways, rummaging through bedrooms, and searching for valuables. Officers arrived on the scene within minutes of the call, prompting the suspects to flee before they could make contact with the homeowner.
Safety Guidelines for Residential Intrusions
The LAPD praised the resident's quick thinking, noting that avoiding direct confrontation is often the safest course of action during an active break-in. Crime prevention officers recommend taking the following precautions if you suspect someone is entering your home: lock doors, shelter in place in a secure room, and keep a phone handy to communicate with dispatchers. Investigators are currently searching the premises for latent fingerprints and checking nearby surveillance networks for images of the suspects.
