LAPD Officer-Involved Shooting Occurs During South Los Angeles Burglary Call

An officer-involved shooting occurred in South Los Angeles on Friday after police responded to a residential burglary call. The suspect, who was reportedly armed with a knife, was shot by responding officers during a tense confrontation at the scene.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home in South LA following reports of an active break-in. Upon their arrival, they encountered a male suspect who was brandishing a knife. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and gave verbal commands for the suspect to drop the weapon. However, the suspect advanced toward the officers, prompting them to discharge their service weapons.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and immediately received medical attention from officers before being transported by paramedics to a local hospital in critical condition. No officers or residents were injured during the incident. The LAPD’s Force Investigation Division has launched a standard inquiry into the shooting, and body-worn camera footage is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
