Intruders Flee After Being Scared Off During Mid-Wilshire Attempted Break-In
LOS ANGELES, CA โ A pair of attempted residential break-ins in the Mid-Wilshire district of Los Angeles ended abruptly when the homeowners managed to startle and scare off the suspects before entry was gained.
Homeowners Alert and Deter Suspects
According to Los Angeles Police Department reports, the first attempt occurred at approximately 3:00 PM when two unidentified individuals approached a residence and tried to force open a side window. The resident, hearing the noise, immediately yelled out and activated the home's alarm system. The sudden noise startled the suspects, who quickly fled the property.
Shortly thereafter, a second attempted break-in was reported at a neighboring home, featuring suspects matching the same description. In this instance, the homeowner spotted the intruders on their front porch via a smart doorbell camera. The owner used the camera's two-way speaker to confront the suspects, demanding they leave immediately. The suspects complied, fleeing on foot before police could arrive.
Security Systems Proving Effective
Police investigators note that visible security cameras and active home security systems are playing a critical role in preventing actual entry during recent residential crimes. Local community leaders are encouraging residents to ensure their cameras are fully functional and that signs indicating security monitoring are clearly displayed to discourage opportunistic burglars.
