Smash-and-Grab Burglary Spree Damages Fairfax-Melrose District Shops

LOS ANGELES, CA โ€” A wave of early morning smash-and-grab burglaries in the popular Fairfax-Melrose commercial corridor has left several local businesses facing extensive property damage and stolen inventory, business owners and police reported Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the early hours of May 5, 2026. Suspects utilized heavy objects to shatter the glass windows and front doors of multiple high-profile retail shops along the strip. Once inside, the perpetrators quickly ransacked display cases and snatched valuable merchandise before fleeing the scene in waiting getaway vehicles.

Store owners arriving for the morning shift were met with shattered glass and disrupted storefronts. The Los Angeles Police Department is actively investigating the break-ins and analyzing surveillance camera footage from targeted locations. Detectives are trying to determine if the same crew is linked to other commercial burglaries reported recently in the West Los Angeles area.
