LAPD Officers Fatally Shoot Armed Suspect Tied to South LA Gas Station Incident

LOS ANGELES, CA โ€” Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department fatally shot an armed suspect on Friday afternoon in South Los Angeles, following a confrontation linked to an earlier shooting at a local gas station.

The incident began on April 3, 2026, when patrol units responded to reports of gunfire at a South LA gas station. Shortly thereafter, officers located an individual matching the suspect's description nearby. According to investigators, the suspect was armed with a handgun and refused to comply with the officers' commands.

An officer-involved shooting occurred when the suspect reportedly produced the weapon. The suspect was hit by police gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene. A handgun was recovered near the suspect's body. No officers or bystanders were injured. The LAPD's Force Investigation Division has initiated a routine investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
