Louisville Business Owner Faces Costly Repairs After Double Copper Wire Theft
LOUISVILLE, KY โ A Louisville business owner is facing thousands of dollars in unexpected repair bills after copper wire thieves targeted their property twice within a short period, leaving behind significant structural damage and utility disruptions.
The business owner reported that the perpetrators dismantled outdoor electrical units and air conditioning systems to extract valuable copper wiring. The first break-in resulted in substantial damage to the building's infrastructure, prompting expensive repairs. Only weeks later, as the business was recovering, thieves struck a second time, stripping newly installed wiring and utility connections.
Copper theft has become an increasing concern for local business owners due to the high resale value of the metal. Beyond the cost of the stolen material, the damage to HVAC units, electrical conduits, and industrial machinery often costs victims many times more to repair or replace.
The Louisville Metro Police Department is investigating the incidents and reviewing security footage from the area to identify the individuals involved. Local scrap yards and recycling centers are being monitored for suspicious attempts to sell large quantities of copper. Authorities advise business owners to secure their properties with protective cages around HVAC units, increase security lighting, and install high-definition security cameras to deter thieves.
