Louisville Man Arrested for Breaking into Ex-Girlfriend's Home and Domestic Assault

LOUISVILLE, Ky. โ€” A Louisville man has been arrested and faces multiple criminal charges after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend's residence and physically attacking her. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Alex Ramirez-Barillas, was apprehended by the Louisville Metro Police Department following the violent domestic incident.

According to court documents filed in Jefferson County, the break-in occurred on a Saturday evening in late June 2025. Investigators state that Ramirez-Barillas and the victim had ended their relationship approximately one week prior to the incident. Ramirez-Barillas allegedly went to the victim's home and entered through an unlocked back door without her consent.

Details of the Assault

Once inside, the situation quickly escalated. The arrest warrant states that Ramirez-Barillas jumped on top of the victim, placed both of his hands around her neck, and squeezed, restricting her ability to breathe. During the struggle, he kneed her in the thigh and repeatedly struck her head against a wooden bed frame. He then forcibly took her cell phone to prevent her from calling emergency services.

Despite her injuries, the victim managed to escape the house and reach a neighboring residence, where she was able to contact the police. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed visible physical injuries on the victim, including red marks, scratches, and swelling around her neck and face.

Charges and Court Proceedings

Ramirez-Barillas was located nearby and taken into custody. He has been charged with first-degree burglary, strangulation, and fourth-degree assault (domestic violence). The Jefferson County prosecutor's office has requested a protective order on behalf of the victim. Strangulation is a Class D felony in Kentucky, carrying a sentence of up to five years in prison, while first-degree burglary is a Class B felony carrying up to 20 years.
