Cordele Man Sentenced to Nine Years in Federal Prison for Macon Pawn Shop Gun Theft

A Cordele man has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison in connection with a high-profile theft at a Macon pawn shop on New Year's Day in 2023, which resulted in the theft of dozens of firearms.

Federal prosecutors announced the sentencing following an investigation into the burglary, during which the perpetrator broke into the pawn shop and stole 62 guns. The large quantity of stolen weapons raised significant public safety concerns, prompting a coordinated effort by local law enforcement and federal agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

The investigation successfully linked the suspect to the break-in, leading to his arrest and subsequent prosecution. In addition to the nine-year prison sentence, the court ordered a period of supervised release. Law enforcement officials emphasized that prosecuting gun thefts remains a top priority to prevent stolen firearms from being used in further violent crimes.
