A Memphis community organization that was left sweltering after brazen thieves stole their air conditioning unit has received an unexpected and heartwarming gift. The Afrikan Village was struggling to cope with the summer heat and the financial burden of replacing the stolen equipment when a local business stepped in to save the day.

Generous Donation Relieves Financial Stress

Following a local news broadcast detailing the theft last Friday, Choate’s Air Conditioning, Heating, Plumbing, and Electrical immediately reached out with a generous offer. The company pledged to donate and install a brand-new, customized A/C unit for the facility entirely free of charge. According to Norman R. Redwing Jr., program director of The Afrikan Village, the organization had been relying on a temporary loaner unit while trying to figure out how to budget for a costly replacement they simply couldn't afford.

"I was so excited because the one we have right now is a borrowed unit, and for someone to be that kind to offer that with all that’s going on in the world, man, I tell you it’s a joyous, joyous moment," Redwing expressed, highlighting how the donation has relieved an enormous amount of stress for the team.

Installation and Ongoing Investigation

Before proceeding with the installation, technicians from Choate’s are conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the building's HVAC infrastructure. Kevin Camferdam, a Comfort Advisor for the company, noted that the previous system was older, so they are designing a modern setup that meets all current industry standards to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability for the organization.

While the community celebrates this act of kindness, the Memphis police are still investigating the original crime. Currently, there is no information regarding the identities of the suspects or the getaway vehicle used to haul away the heavy equipment.
