Man accused of robbing woman at popular Miami Nicaraguan restaurant: ‘I am capable of killing you’
MIAMI, Florida — A violent armed robbery at a landmark Nicaraguan eatery in Little Havana has ended in the arrest of a 43-year-old homeless man, according to Miami-Dade police records.
The suspect, identified as Edwin Zuniga, was apprehended by officers following a traffic stop on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Zuniga is accused of robbing a woman of her purse at gunpoint during the early hours of November 2, 2025, at the popular Yambo Restaurant, located at 1643 SW First St.
According to the police report, Zuniga first encountered the victim and her male companion on Flagler Street. Driving by them, Zuniga stopped his vehicle and tried to strike up a conversation, asking the woman where she was from. The pair ignored his advances and continued walking toward the restaurant.
Just after 5:15 a.m., as the woman was walking into Yambo Restaurant, Zuniga drove up, jumped out of his car, and grabbed her by her hair. Holding a gun, he reportedly threatened her, saying, “I am capable of killing you,” before snatching her purse.
Surveillance footage from the restaurant captured the violent struggle. The video shows Zuniga kicking the woman, causing her to fall heavily to the ground. As she tried to pull away, Zuniga kicked her again, snatched the purse, and sped off in his vehicle.
Following his arrest during a morning traffic stop, Zuniga refused to speak with detectives. Jail records show he is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, facing charges of armed robbery alongside a laundry list of outstanding grand theft, drug, and burglary counts from separate cases.
