MIAMI-DADE, Florida — A South Florida man faces severe charges after allegedly impersonating a law enforcement officer to orchestrate a home invasion robbery, leaving the victims traumatized inside their own residence.

Investigative reports indicate that the suspect approached the front door of the home and announced, "I am Miami-Dade police." Trusting the identification, the unsuspecting homeowner opened the door. The suspect then forced his way inside, revealing his criminal intent as he demanded valuables and threatened the occupants.

The victims were able to contact the actual police shortly after the suspect fled the scene. Detectives launched an immediate investigation, utilizing surveillance footage and eyewitness statements to identify the suspect. He was tracked down and arrested by genuine Miami-Dade police officers within days of the home invasion.

Impersonating a police officer is taken extremely seriously by local law enforcement, who warn residents to always verify credentials if they are unsure of an officer's identity. The suspect has been charged with home invasion robbery, armed burglary, and false impersonation of an officer.
