Driver hospitalized after crashing into SW Miami-Dade home; homeowner says she was burglarized overnight

MIAMI-DADE, Florida — A Southwest Miami-Dade homeowner is dealing with a double dose of misfortune after her home was targeted by burglars overnight, and then struck by an out-of-control vehicle the following morning.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene in Southwest Miami-Dade after receiving reports of a vehicle crashing directly into a residential structure. The driver of the vehicle sustained injuries in the collision and had to be hospitalized. The extent of their injuries has not been fully disclosed, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation by local traffic units.

As if the structural damage to her home was not enough, the homeowner revealed to responding officers and reporters that she had already been awake dealing with the aftermath of an overnight burglary. Intruders had reportedly broken into her home hours earlier, ransacking rooms and stealing personal property.

Police are investigating both incidents. While they currently appear to be coincidental and unrelated, investigators are exploring all angles to determine if there are any connections between the overnight break-in and the subsequent morning crash.
