Multi-City Gun Store Burglaries Strike Murfreesboro and Surrounding Communities
MURFREESBORO, Tennessee โ Law enforcement agencies across Rutherford and Marshall counties are collaborating in a major investigation following a sophisticated string of smash-and-grab robberies targeting multiple gun stores in Middle Tennessee.
The wave of break-ins began in early June 2024, prompting the Murfreesboro Police Department to release clear surveillance footage of a heist at a local firearms retailer. The video shows masked suspects quickly breaching the storefront, smashing display cases, and making off with numerous firearms within minutes. Authorities noted that the high speed and coordination of the thieves suggest an organized criminal ring.
As the investigation progressed, reports confirmed that similar burglaries occurred in nearby Chapel Hill and Smyrna, raising concerns among business owners and federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Law enforcement officials emphasize that putting stolen firearms onto the streets poses a severe threat to public safety.
Adding to the gravity of the thefts, police conducting a follow-up search at a burglarized gun shop discovered a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) round on the premises. While later determined to be inert, the presence of military-grade ordnance at the scene underscores the hazardous nature of these targets. Authorities are calling on the public to help identify the suspects captured in the footage, offering rewards for information leading to arrests and the recovery of the stolen weapons.
