Smash-and-Grab: Vehicle Used to Ram Into South Nashville Coffee Shop in Early Morning Break-In

A South Nashville coffee shop suffered extensive structural damage after thieves used a vehicle to smash through the front of the business in an early morning break-in. The destructive entry style, commonly known as a ram-raid, allowed the suspects to quickly bypass security locks and access the building's interior.

A Violent Point of Entry

The incident occurred in the pre-dawn hours when a vehicle was backed or driven directly into the entrance of the coffee shop, shattering the glass doors and warping the structural frame. Once inside, the perpetrators targeted the store's cash register and safe before fleeing the scene in the same vehicle, leaving behind a trail of debris and shattered glass.

Ram-raids have become an increasingly popular tactic for commercial burglars seeking to minimize time spent on site. The structural damage caused by these entries often costs business owners tens of thousands of dollars to repair, far outweighing the value of any cash or merchandise stolen.

Police Investigation

Detectives are examining debris left at the scene and analyzing local traffic cameras to trace the vehicle involved, which is suspected to have been stolen prior to the break-in. Business owners in the area are calling for the installation of protective bollards along storefront sidewalks to prevent similar vehicle-assisted burglaries in the future.
