Teenagers Arrested Following Violent Hammer-Wielding Robbery Spree at NYC Cannabis and Smoke Shops

A group of teenagers has been arrested and charged in connection with a string of violent robberies targeting legal cannabis dispensaries and smoke shops across New York City, where they allegedly used hammers to smash display cases and terrorize staff.

According to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the teens operated in a coordinated crew, hitting several smoke shops in different boroughs. During the robberies, members of the group would enter the establishments brandishing hammers, which they used to break security glass, counter displays, and cash registers. The suspects stole cash, legal cannabis products, vaping cartridges, and other high-value merchandise before fleeing.

The arrests follow an intensive investigation by NYPD detectives, who compiled surveillance footage from multiple crime scenes showing the distinct modus operandi of the group. Police officers recovered some of the stolen products and the tools used in the crimes during the apprehension of the suspects. The teenagers face multiple felony charges, including robbery, criminal mischief, and grand larceny.

Business owners in the legal cannabis and smoke shop industry have recently called for increased protection as their stores have increasingly become targets for smash-and-grab thefts.
