Burglars Smash Windows, Steal Cash Registers from Multiple Hylan Boulevard Businesses in Staten Island
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has launched an active investigation into a series of commercial burglaries on Staten Island, where suspects shattered storefront windows and stole cash registers from multiple businesses along Hylan Boulevard.
The crime spree occurred overnight, targeting retail and dining establishments along one of Staten Island's busiest commercial corridors. According to police reports, the perpetrators used heavy objects to smash the glass entryways or front windows of the targeted stores. Once inside, they bypassed other inventory to quickly tear out and remove entire cash registers containing unspecified amounts of cash before fleeing the scene.
Local business owners expressed frustration over the vandalism and theft, citing both the loss of revenue and the costly repairs required to replace shattered storefront glass. NYPD officers from the local precinct have been conducting canvasses of the area, collecting security camera footage from the affected businesses and surrounding traffic cameras to identify the suspects and trace their route of escape.
No injuries were reported in connection with the break-ins, as all targeted businesses were closed at the time. Authorities are urging residents or motorists who may have witnessed suspicious activity or vehicles along Hylan Boulevard during the overnight hours to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline.
