NYPD Officer Injured by Wrong-Way Driver During Response to Upper East Side Robbery

MANHATTAN, NY โ€” A police response to a robbery on the Upper East Side turned hazardous on January 17, 2024, when a responding NYPD officer was struck and injured by a driver traveling in the wrong direction.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the scene of an active robbery in the affluent Upper East Side neighborhood. As units arrived, a vehicle operating against the flow of traffic struck one of the responding officers. The driver of the vehicle fled the immediate area following the collision.

The injured officer was immediately treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital with injuries that were reported to be non-life-threatening. The incident highlights the inherent dangers faced by law enforcement officers during emergency responses in densely populated urban environments.

The NYPD has launched a dual investigation into the initial robbery and the subsequent vehicular assault on the officer.
