Off-duty US Customs and Border Protection officer shot in NYC in apparent robbery, police say

An off-duty United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer was shot and injured on Sunday afternoon during an apparent robbery attempt in New York City, sparking an active investigation by local and federal authorities.

Officer Confronted by Suspects and Shot

According to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the officer was walking in the afternoon when he was approached by one or more individuals who demanded his personal belongings. A physical altercation ensued, during which the suspects drew a firearm and shot the off-duty officer. Emergency medical services responded quickly to the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital. Authorities have confirmed that his injuries are non-life-threatening and he remains in stable condition.

Investigation and Search for Shooter

Detectives have cordoned off the crime scene and are actively canvassing the area for security camera footage and witnesses who might help identify the assailants who opened fire.
