Vehicles Smashed Into Two Oakland Chinatown Banks in Brazen ATM Burglaries
OAKLAND, CA โ Oakland's Chinatown was the scene of dramatic property destruction and theft after smash-and-grab thieves utilized vehicles to ram through the storefronts of two local banks in back-to-back burglaries. The coordinated attacks specifically targeted bank ATMs, causing extensive structural damage to the buildings.
According to investigators, the suspects drove heavy vehicles directly into the entryways of the financial institutions, shattering concrete and security gates to gain immediate access to the cash machines inside. Once the structures were breached, the thieves worked quickly to extract cash canisters before fleeing in waiting getaway vehicles before police could arrive.
The incident has heightened anxiety in Chinatown, a community already dealing with public safety challenges. Oakland's Chief of Police visited the scene and announced that detectives have acquired promising leads, including surveillance footage showing the vehicles and individuals involved. Chinatown community leaders are urging the city to install bollards and increase security presence to protect neighborhood banks and essential businesses from similar destructive ramming tactics.
