Odessa Home Burglarized After Suspects Use Apple AirTag to Track Victims

ODESSA, Texas — Law enforcement deputies have uncovered a sophisticated tracking method used in a recent residential burglary in Odessa, warning residents about the potential misuse of tracking devices.

According to reports from the sheriff's office, suspects allegedly utilized an Apple AirTag to track the movements of two victims. By covertly placing the tracking device on the victims' vehicle, the suspects were able to monitor their location and determine when the homeowners were away. The perpetrators then used this tracking information to target and burglarize the victims' Odessa residence.

Deputies succeeded in identifying and apprehending the individuals involved in the tracking and burglary scheme. Authorities are advising the public to be aware of notifications on their smartphones indicating an unknown AirTag is nearby, which is a safety feature designed by Apple to prevent unauthorized tracking. The investigation is ongoing as deputies examine whether the suspects are linked to other similar tracking incidents in the region.
