Omaha Armored Truck Robbed at Gunpoint Outside Wells Fargo Branch

Omaha Police are searching for a masked gunman who robbed an armored truck driver outside a Wells Fargo bank branch in Northwest Omaha on Monday afternoon. The suspect remains at large, and investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the bank and nearby businesses to determine his identity and escape route.

The Armed Robbery at Maple and Emmet

The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026. Omaha Police Department (OPD) dispatchers received an emergency call from an armored truck driver who reported that he had just been robbed outside the Wells Fargo branch located at the intersection of Maple Street and Emmet Street. The driver stated that a man wearing gloves and a face mask confronted him, brandishing a handgun. The suspect demanded money, obtained an undisclosed amount of cash, and fled the scene before officers arrived.

Search and Investigation Underway

According to Lt. Kyle Steffen with the Omaha Police Department, the suspect fled on foot immediately after the robbery. "Reports indicated that he went westbound on Maple Street. Officers are canvassing the area as we speak. We don't have an exact location where the suspect went from this location," Steffen said. Officers spent Monday afternoon searching the area and interviewing potential witnesses, but no suspects have been caught.

Detectives are focusing their efforts on analyzing video footage from security cameras at the Wells Fargo branch and surrounding commercial establishments. Police are trying to establish if the suspect had cased the location or waited in the area before the armored truck arrived. "That is unknown. We didn't have any additional witnesses in the area that we have located as of yet to determine if the bank was cased or if they had been in the area for a little bit," Steffen added. Wells Fargo branch management and corporate communications have declined to comment on the incident.

Armored Car and Bank Security Guidelines

Robberies of armored transport vehicles are high-risk crimes that require robust defense measures. Security professionals recommend the following guidelines to protect personnel and assets:

  • Dual-Agent Operations: Armored car companies should ensure that when cash is being transported, one guard remains in the secure vehicle to monitor the surroundings while the other handles the transfer.
  • Varied Schedules and Routes: Delivery times and routes to specific bank branches should be randomized to prevent criminals from casing and predicting the armored truck's arrival.
  • Vigilance and Zone Control: Bank staff and armored car personnel should establish a clear perimeter and scan the area for loiterers before initiating any cash transfer.
  • High-Visibility CCTV Coverage: Ensure that high-definition exterior cameras cover the entire driveway and walk-up area surrounding bank entrances and drop boxes.
  • Immediate Emergency Protocols: Personnel should comply with the robber's demands to prevent loss of life, then immediately activate silent panic alarms and note the suspect's physical description and direction of flight.
