Fingerprint evidence leads to arrest in violent Orlando ATM drive-thru robbery
ORLANDO, Fla. โ Forensic evidence has led to the arrest of a suspect linked to a violent drive-thru ATM robbery in Orlando. The breakthrough in the case came after crime scene investigators successfully recovered fingerprints matching the suspect from the scene of the crime.
The incident occurred when a victim was using an ATM at a drive-thru location and was approached by an armed individual. The suspect threatened the victim and demanded cash, leading to a violent struggle. The suspect eventually fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, leaving the victim shaken but without life-threatening injuries.
Orlando Police Department crime scene technicians processed the ATM and the victim's vehicle for evidence, locating fingerprints that did not belong to the victim. The prints were run through the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), yielding a positive match to a known individual with a prior criminal record.
Armed with the forensic match, detectives located and arrested the suspect, who has been charged with armed robbery and grand theft. The suspect is currently held without bond in the county jail.
