Thieves in Minivan Drag ATM Out of Philadelphia Restaurant with Metal Chain

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Police Department is searching for a group of thieves who used a minivan and a metal chain to steal an automated teller machine (ATM) from a corner restaurant in Philadelphia.

The brazen theft occurred on January 23, 2025, at a local dining establishment. Surveillance footage of the incident shows the suspects backing a minivan up to the restaurant's entrance. The perpetrators then ran inside, secured a heavy metal chain around the ATM, and attached the other end to their vehicle. The driver accelerated, dragging the cash machine out through the restaurant's front doors, causing extensive damage to the property.

Suspects Flee the Scene

Once the ATM was dislodged and pulled onto the sidewalk, the thieves quickly loaded the heavy unit into the back of the minivan. The vehicle then sped away from the corner restaurant before law enforcement officers arrived at the scene. Police are currently analyzing security footage from the restaurant and surrounding streets to trace the minivan's route.

Business owners in the area are expressing concern over the security of cash machines in retail spots. The police department is asking anyone with information regarding this robbery or who might recognize the vehicle to contact detectives immediately.
