Surveillance Video Captures Suspect Looting Philadelphia Church's Poor Box Just Before Christmas

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Parishioners and community members are expressing outrage after security cameras captured a suspect breaking into a local Philadelphia church's "poor box" to steal charitable donations just days before Christmas.

The surveillance footage shows the perpetrator entering the church under the guise of a visitor before targeting the donation receptacle, which is traditionally used to collect financial assistance for local low-income families and individuals in need. Armed with tools, the suspect managed to pry open the secured box, empty the cash and checks deposited by generous churchgoers, and exit the premises undetected.

Church officials discovered the theft shortly thereafter and immediately contacted the Philadelphia Police Department. "To steal from those who have the least, especially during the Christmas season, is incredibly disheartening," a church representative remarked. Investigators are currently reviewing the high-definition security footage in hopes of identifying the suspect.
