Police Investigate Portland Home Burglary Occurring Hours After Fire Damages Property

PORTLAND, Oregon — Local police are investigating a highly opportunistic burglary at a Portland home that took place only hours after a residential fire had damaged the structure.

Emergency crews had responded earlier in the day to extinguish a fire at the residence. After the scene was cleared and the home was temporarily left vacant, burglars apparently took advantage of the situation. The suspects broke into the damaged structure, ransacking the interior and stealing personal belongings that had survived the flames.

Homeowners returned to find their property, already compromised by smoke and fire damage, further violated by the break-in.
