Facebook Marketplace Transaction Ends in Gun-Wielding Chase in Providence
PROVIDENCE, RI โ A routine online transaction took a dangerous turn in Providence when a planned Facebook Marketplace sale escalated into a terrifying, gun-wielding chase through local streets. The alarming incident has prompted police to reiterate safety recommendations regarding meeting locations for peer-to-peer online sales.
The victim had arranged to meet a prospective buyer to complete the sale of an item advertised on the popular social media platform. However, upon arrival at the meeting spot, the encounter turned hostile. Instead of exchanging funds, the prospective buyers brandished a firearm and attempted to rob the seller. The seller managed to escape, prompting the armed suspects to pursue the victim in a vehicle chase through the neighborhood.
During the high-stress pursuit, the victims contacted emergency services, prompting a rapid police response. The suspects eventually broke off their chase and fled the scene when police sirens neared. No injuries or shots fired were reported, though the victims were understandably shaken. Providence Police are actively investigating the incident and advising residents to utilize designated 'safe exchange zones,' such as the parking lots of local police stations, for all internet-initiated transactions.
