Renton Man Arrested After Sledgehammer Heists Net Over $350k in Stolen Pawn Shop Goods

A Renton man has been arrested and charged in connection with two high-value burglaries targeting local pawn shops, where he allegedly used a sledgehammer to gain entry and steal merchandise valued at over $350,000, according to Renton Police.

The break-ins occurred under the cover of night, with the suspect using brute force to smash through windows and display cases. According to police reports, the suspect targeted high-value items, including jewelry, electronics, and firearms, during the rapid-entry burglaries. Investigators were able to link the two incidents through security footage showing a suspect of the same description utilizing a sledgehammer to quickly bypass the businesses' physical security measures.

Following an intensive investigation, Renton detectives identified and apprehended the suspect at his residence in Renton. A search warrant executed at the property led to the recovery of some of the stolen merchandise, as well as tools matching those used in the crimes. The suspect faces multiple counts of commercial burglary and first-degree theft, and is currently being held in the King County Jail.
