Violent Carjacking and Robbery Spree Commences in Sacramento before Suspect is Killed in San Jose Shootout
SACRAMENTO, California โ A violent, multi-city crime spree that terrorized Northern California over several days began with a vehicle theft in Sacramento and ended in a deadly shootout with law enforcement in downtown San Jose. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Mohamed Husien of Davis, was killed in the confrontation, which also left a San Jose police sergeant critically injured.
Spree Initiated in Sacramento
The sequence of events began on January 17, 2026, when Husien allegedly stole a red Chevrolet Corvette from a dealership in Sacramento. Over the next four days, the suspect embarked on a reckless crime spree across multiple jurisdictions, including parts of the San Francisco Peninsula and San Jose. Authorities reported that Husien committed a series of armed robberies and carjackings during this period, constantly staying one step ahead of local law enforcement agencies.
Escalation and High-Speed pursuit
On the afternoon of January 21, 2026, law enforcement tracked the stolen red Corvette to a dealership on Capitol Expressway in San Jose. Realizing he was being watched, Husien abandoned the vehicle and carried out a second armed carjacking, stealing a green Corvette. A police helicopter tracked his escape route as he fled south toward Hollister. Officers initiated a pursuit, which eventually forced the suspect to abandon the second vehicle. Undeterred, Husien brandished a firearm, shot at pursuing officers, and hijacked a third vehicle to flee back toward San Jose.
Fatal Downtown Standoff
The pursuit reached a chaotic conclusion shortly before 4:00 PM when Husien crashed the third vehicle near the intersection of Julian Street and Notre Dame Avenue in downtown San Jose. As officers closed in, the suspect emerged from the vehicle firing multiple rounds. A San Jose Police Department sergeant was struck in the head during the gun battle. Multiple officers returned fire, fatally shooting Husien, who was also struck by a police patrol cruiser. The injured sergeant was rushed to a local hospital in critical but stable condition, where he is expected to survive. The investigation involves at least six law enforcement agencies and is currently ongoing.
