SACRAMENTO, California — Law enforcement officials have released additional details connecting a Davis resident to the initial vehicle theft in Sacramento that sparked a violent multi-city crime spree. The suspect, 30-year-old Mohamed Husien, was eventually killed in a shootout with San Jose police after a pursuit spanning multiple counties.

The Sacramento Dealership Theft

The investigation reveals that the crime spree began on January 17, 2026, at a dealership in Sacramento. According to police reports, Husien targeted a red Chevrolet Corvette, successfully driving it off the lot. The theft was immediately reported to Sacramento police, who began tracking the vehicle. However, the suspect managed to evade initial capture, utilizing the high-powered sports car to move between jurisdictions in Northern California over the subsequent days.

A Trail of Crimes Across Northern California

In the days following the Sacramento theft, the red Corvette was spotted in multiple locations across the San Francisco Peninsula. Investigators allege that Husien used the vehicle while committing several armed robberies and carjackings. The spree reached a violent climax on January 21, when Husien abandoned the red Corvette at a Capitol Expressway dealership in San Jose and carjacked a green Corvette at gunpoint, initiating a high-speed chase that eventually ended in downtown San Jose.

Tragic Conclusion and Investigation

The incident concluded in a fatal shootout on Julian Street in downtown San Jose. Husien shot a San Jose police sergeant in the head before being killed by returning fire.
