San Antonio Vintage Shop 'The Thrift Thru' Targeted in Brazen Smash-and-Grab Burglary

SAN ANTONIO, Texas โ€” The owners of a popular local vintage shop are reeling and seeking answers after their business was targeted in a destructive early-morning smash-and-grab burglary. The incident, which was caught on live surveillance, marks the third time the establishment has been targeted in just three years of operation.

On the morning of Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Payton Samudio, the owner of The Thrift Thruโ€”located off San Pedro Avenue near the Woodlawn neighborhoodโ€”was jolted awake at approximately 3:30 a.m. by security alarms. Upon opening her phone, Samudio watched live surveillance footage in horror as a group of four masked individuals wearing hooded sweatshirts smashed through the store's glass entrance.

A Swift and Costly Raid

The thieves moved through the shop with practiced speed, ransacking displays and glass cases. In less than three minutes, they cleared out high-value electronics, vintage sneakers, clothing, rare collectibles, and the cash register's float. The total loss from the stolen goods and property damage is estimated to be around $3,000.

"We were watching it live," Samudio said of the distressing experience. "Itโ€™s just disheartening and scary because you put so much work into your business, and they just come in and take what they want."

Unsettling Discovery

Adding to the concern, responding officers from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) discovered at least 20 bullets scattered on the floor in the back room of the shop during their post-incident sweep. It remains unclear why the ammunition was left behind, but it added a chilling layer of anxiety for the shop's small staff.

Despite the shock, Samudio is hoping that high-definition security footage will help police identify the perpetrators. The suspects backed their vehicle into a front parking spot directly in front of the store, allowing the camera system to capture a clear view of their license plate. This footage has been handed over to SAPD investigators.

The Thrift Thru community has rallied around the store, which remains committed to serving the neighborhood. Anyone with information regarding the incident or the suspects is urged to contact the San Antonio Police Department.
