Historic Monte Vista Italian Restaurant 'Capparelli's on Main' Burglarized

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The owner of Capparelli's on Main, a long-standing Italian restaurant in San Antonio's historic Monte Vista neighborhood, is calling on the public to help identify a burglar who broke into the eatery.

The break-in occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on a Monday morning in early October 2025. Surveillance video from the restaurant captured a suspect using a large rock to smash through one of the building's front glass windows, creating a hole large enough to crawl inside.

Once inside, the intruder bypassed electronic equipment and instead targeted the restaurant's bar and dining areas. The surveillance footage shows the suspect grabbing several bottles of wine before escaping back through the shattered window.

In response to the break-in, owner Gay Capparelli shared photos and video clips of the incident on the restaurant's Facebook page, urging local residents to look closely at the suspect's clothing and build in hopes of identifying them.

"It is incredibly frustrating to deal with the damage and loss," Capparelli said. "We love our neighborhood and are hoping someone might recognize this person and help the police resolve the case."

Following the social media post, patrons and neighbors flooded the page with words of support and shared the post widely. The Monte Vista area is known for its historic charm and active residential community, which has rallied to protect its local businesses. The incident has been reported to the San Antonio Police Department, and an investigation into the burglary is ongoing.
