Man Arrested After Breaking Into UTSA Campus Apartment and Sexually Assaulting Student, Police Say

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A student housing complex at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) was the scene of a serious security breach and violent crime early Monday morning, leading to the arrest of a suspect accused of breaking into an apartment and sexually assaulting a student.

According to the San Antonio Express-News and reports from the UTSA Police Department, the suspect unlawfully gained entry into a campus apartment unit where the victim was asleep. The victim told investigators she awoke to find the intruder in her room. He then assaulted her before fleeing the scene when other occupants of the apartment were alerted to the disturbance.

University police, in collaboration with the San Antonio Police Department, launched an immediate search of the campus and surrounding areas. Utilizing campus surveillance cameras and witness descriptions, officers were able to locate and apprehend the suspect shortly after the incident. He faces charges of burglary of a habitation and sexual assault.

UTSA administration released a statement expressing deep concern over the event, emphasizing that student safety remains their highest priority. The university has pledged to review campus security protocols, increase patrols around residence halls, and provide counseling resources and support services to the victim and the student body. Students are urged to lock all windows and doors and to report any suspicious behavior immediately to university authorities.
