Attempted Ram-Raiding Thieves Smash Car into Miramar Gun Shop Storefront
SAN DIEGO, CA โ A Miramar gun shop successfully resisted a destructive attempted break-in early Monday morning when would-be thieves tried to smash through the entrance using a stolen vehicle.
The attempted ram-raid took place at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Ammo Bros retail store situated at 7550 Miramar Road. According to the San Diego Police Department, a group of suspects drove a stolen Hyundai sedan backward into the storefront in a desperate attempt to crash through the front door. However, the store's heavy security gates and armored entryway held firm, preventing the vehicle from breaching the building.
Realizing their attempt had failed, the suspects abandoned the heavily damaged Hyundai at the scene and fled in a secondary getaway car. Federal prosecutors later revealed that this failed heist was part of a larger conspiracy targeting federal firearms licensees across Southern California.
In July 2024, six individuals from Riverside County and Las Vegas were indicted in connection with the conspiracy, which successfully stole over 300 firearms from various stores using similar ram-raid tactics.
The investigation remains active, and local business owners are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or vehicles loitering near commercial properties.
