SAN FRANCISCO — Ricky Pearsall, a rookie wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers and former standout player for the Florida Gators, was shot and injured during an attempted robbery in San Francisco's Union Square. The high-profile incident occurred in broad daylight in one of the city's busiest shopping districts, sparking intense public concern over street safety.

The Confrontation in Union Square

The shooting took place at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, near the intersection of Geary Street and Grant Avenue. Pearsall, 23, was walking alone when he was approached by an armed suspect who attempted to rob him of his high-end watch. A physical struggle ensued between Pearsall and the assailant, during which gunfire was exchanged.

Pearsall sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. The suspect, a 17-year-old male from Tracy, California, was also wounded during the physical altercation. Pearsall was transported to San Francisco General Hospital in serious but stable condition.
