Explosive Break-in Shakes Le Marais Bakery in San Franciscoโs Castro District
A popular bakery in San Franciscoโs Castro District, Le Marais Bakery, was hit by an "explosive" burglary in the middle of the night on Friday, June 13, 2025, leaving the owners devastated during what should have been a festive Pride Month weekend.
Deafening Midnight Blast
According to security video and local reports, the suspects arrived at the bakery under the cover of darkness and deployed an explosive device to blow out the storefront windows. The blast shattered the glass and caused significant damage to the entrance. Once inside, the burglars moved rapidly, stealing cash registers, point-of-sale tablets, and a safe containing cash assets.
A Recurring Nightmare
Le Marais Bakery owners described the break-in as a "recurring nightmare" for their family-run business, which has faced multiple episodes of vandalism, break-ins, and local security issues over the years. The incident is particularly poignant as the bakery was actively participating in the neighborhood's Pride Month celebrations, offering a specialty "Pride Crรชpe" designed to raise funds for local LGBTQ+ community organizations.
San Francisco police are investigating the incident and looking for any security footage or witness reports that could lead to the identification of the individuals responsible for the explosion and theft.
