Four Arrested After Elderly Robbery, Legion of Honor Auto Burglaries, and High-Speed Chase

A sophisticated collaboration between plainclothes officers, drone teams, and real-time investigators led to the arrest of four suspects connected to an elder robbery and a series of auto burglaries that stretched across San Francisco.

Elder Robbery on Irving Street

The coordinated crime spree began on April 1, 2026, when officers from the San Francisco Police Department's Citywide Plainclothes Teamโ€”who were conducting targeted robbery and auto burglary abatement operationsโ€”received reports of a robbery in the Taraval District. An elderly woman waiting at a bus stop on the 2200 block of Irving Street was approached by two suspects who violently snatched her purse, causing non-life-threatening injuries, before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.

Tech-Enabled Tracking

The SFPDโ€™s Real Time Investigation Center (RTIC) quickly identified the getaway vehicle and linked it to two auto burglaries committed earlier that day near the Legion of Honor. Air support via Drone First Responders (DFR) was deployed to locate the vehicle, tracking it to the Palace of Fine Arts. There, remote operators observed the vehicle's occupants committing two additional auto burglaries.

When ground units moved in to intercept, the suspects initiated a pursuit. The chase ended near the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and Lombard Street after the suspects crashed into three separate vehicles. Two of the occupants attempted to flee on foot but were quickly caught by pursuing officers, while the remaining two were arrested at the vehicle. A subsequent investigation revealed the getaway car had been reported stolen out of Hayward. Police successfully recovered the stolen purse and other burglarized items, returning them to their rightful owners.
