Federal Postal Inspectors Launch Probe Into Widespread Mail Theft in San Jose Neighborhoods

Federal authorities have stepped in to investigate a series of mail thefts targeting residential communities across San Jose. The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) confirmed that it has launched a comprehensive probe into multiple cases where mailboxes and packages were targeted by thieves.

Local residents have reported stolen bills, credit cards, and packages, raising significant concerns about identity theft and financial fraud. The thefts have impacted both individual home mailboxes and cluster box units in residential neighborhoods. Postal inspectors are working alongside local law enforcement to analyze security camera footage, identify vehicle patterns, and track down the culprits.

Because mail theft is a federal offense, those convicted face severe penalties, including up to five years in federal prison per charge. The USPIS is urging San Jose residents to promptly collect their mail daily, use secure drop boxes for outgoing correspondence, and report any suspicious activity near mail delivery vehicles or mailboxes immediately.
