Multi-City Crime Spree Ends in Shootout: Suspect Dead, San Jose Police Officer Wounded

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A suspect was shot and killed by police and an officer was hospitalized following a violent multi-city crime spree that spanned from Sacramento to San Jose on Thursday.

According to law enforcement, the incident began in Sacramento, where the suspect reportedly committed a series of violent carjackings and armed robberies. The suspect then traveled south toward the Bay Area in a stolen vehicle, prompting a coordinated multi-agency response to track the individual's movements.

San Jose Police officers intercepted the suspect in San Jose, leading to a high-stakes confrontation. During the encounter, gunfire was exchanged. One San Jose officer sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital, where they are currently recovering. The suspect was struck by police gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from both the Sacramento and San Jose Police Departments, along with district attorney investigators, are conducting a joint investigation into the spree and the officer-involved shooting. The identity of the deceased suspect is being withheld pending family notification.
