Sarasota: Woman in Motorcycle Helmet Smashes Windows at Two Local Businesses
Two beloved local businesses in Sarasota were the targets of bizarre and destructive break-ins during the early hours of Thursday, June 4. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the incidents, which appear to have been carried out by the same distinctly dressed suspect.
Destruction at 8-Ball Lounge
The first reported incident occurred at 3:53 a.m. at the 8-Ball Lounge, located at 3527 Webber Street. Surveillance footage captured a woman arriving in a car, stepping out wearing a dress paired with a motorcycle helmet. The suspect retrieved bricks from the passenger side of her vehicle and used them to violently smash the lounge's front glass windows and door.
Once inside the establishment, the woman proceeded to shatter between 30 and 35 bottles of alcohol stored behind the bar. The owner of the 8-Ball Lounge estimates the total financial tollโincluding structural repairs, lost inventory, and missed salesโto exceed $10,000.
Green Zebra Cafe Also Targeted
That same morning, a second business, the Green Zebra Cafe situated approximately seven miles away at 476 John Ringling Blvd. on St. Armands Circle, suffered a similar fate. Security footage from the cafe also showed a woman in a dress and motorcycle helmet shattering glass to gain entry into the premises.
Ongoing Investigation
Despite the extensive damage, both the 8-Ball Lounge and the Green Zebra Cafe have managed to remain open for business, buoyed by the support of the local community. Authorities have not yet announced any arrests, but the lounge's owner noted that police suspect the perpetrator may be a woman involved in a local altercation the previous day. The investigation remains ongoing as deputies seek to secure warrants.
